Today dawned a perfect day for an outing, so we decided it was the day for going to the Jacksonville Zoo. It was about a 30 minute drive from Mayport. We arrived to find the parking lot sparsely full and weather cool with a sweater feeling good. It was indeed a great day to go, not many people in attendance, so there were not lines. Lou and I decided to ride the train around the entire zoo first, then take the walking tour to see everything we wanted to see.
Our guide on the train gave a good tour of what there was to been seen and a good history of the zoo and we made mental notes of what we wanted to make sure not to miss. The garden area in the middle of the complex would have been outstanding if it had been summer. All flowers, trees and shrubs were labeled so we let our imagination wander and it would have been a magnificent area later in the season.
I was amazed by the number of the birds that were there for our enjoyment and they really strutted their stuff. I had never been that close to a parrot so I really enjoyed that. We also got to get up and personal with the Stingrays which was a rare treat.
On our way home Lou and I talked about our favorite part of the zoo and I guess mine was the giraffe and the parrot. Lou enjoyed the many snakes. Both of us agreed that our favorite zoo is the zoo in Cincinnati, Ohio and hopefully, we will get to tour that again this summer.
We purchased our tickets to Disneyworld today and made reservations for five nights at a camp ground 10 miles from Disney and we will be there February 13 through February 17th and we have not decided where we go from there. We plan on meeting up with Scott and Greg on the 25th of February on Ona, so slowly we are making plans on the month of March. We will stay here at Mayport until the morning of the 13th.
