Day of Exploring

The ships and another sunset at Key West

A building we walked past on the way home from dinner. There is a mural painted all around the building the the design is by Guy Hayden, and if I remember correctly, I think Scott told me, Mr. Hayden is known for his fish pictures.
Kathy's dinner - Stuffed Shrimp, yellow rice and an array of fresh veggies, with a wonderful sweet fruit salsa.
Lou's dinner Shrimp and Scallop stir fry, served on half pineapple, yellow rice and fresh roasted veggies.

March 5th Friday - 55 degrees low and 62 high degrees high, very windy again.

We woke up this morning with the idea of getting around quickly and setting off for a day of exploring; however, Lou woke up about 5:00 and said that Estee was cold so he got an extra blanket and covered all of us up and we awaited the time when we could turn the generator on for heat and fell back asleep, so we ended up doing our devotions and getting into a deep discussion regarding the gospel of Mark and comparing it with the other gospels. The next thing we knew it was 12:30.

Off to Eco-Discovery Center in Key West. The center features an exciting an array of interactive exhibits, dioramas, and displays highlighting the rich natural environment of the Keys. It had a Living Reef with Mote Marine Laboratory's 2400 gallon aquarium and live video from the reef.

We took a virtual dive to 1600 feet, and experienced living underwater in a mock-up if Aquarius, the world's only underwater ocean laboratory. We spent over two hours in the center and hadn't had lunch, so we ran back home, let Estee out and then parked the car at the Coast Guard Station and walked to the board walk.

We chose Conch Republic Seafood Company to eat our dinner. It is located on the Board walk, so we were able to sit and watch the ships come and go. Many of them are huge and a few fishing ships coming in with their catch of the day.

The above pictures show what our meals looked like when they were received. They were very tasty and we ate every bite. Even ordered desert and that was an experience. Lou suggested Key Lime Pie, but I saw chocolate cake, with raspberry and choc topping. So we ordered that with two forks. Guys, you can not believe the size and taste of this desert. It was heavenly, the cake was seven layers, with raspberry sauce and chocolate sauce with whipped cream over it, it took up almost the size of a dinner plate. I have watched Lou eat almost two pounds of Gardner's choc covered cherries (which I don't like) in the last month, and have been craving chocolate, so I would have fought him for the last bite. It was the best ever. I told him when I saw it that the cost of it would be more than our dinner, not really, but it was $9.00, oh well, we both agreed it was well worth every penny of it. Good thing we had to walk home... Tomorrow night - Mickey D's!!!

As we walked back to the Coast Guard Station, we got to see another sunset and the ships coming in. I could walk down their each night and watch the beauty. I have come to really love this place.

Wonderful weather here too...four days of sunshine in a row, but there is still lots of snow on the ground.
